Gong Yue and Wang Letian from College of Foreign Languages and Cultures won the first prize at the 20th FLTRP Cup National English Debating Competition held during the 18th to 24th May at the China Foreign Affairs University.
The 7-day event, co-hosted by the university and the Foreign Language Research and Teaching Press as well as Beijing Foreign Study University, attracted more than 120 teams from all over China and invited 40 renowned judges from home and abroad.
The competitors debated in the British Parliamentary style on various topics, such as whether the European Union should actively pursue Turkey to become a member and whether all African nations should withdraw from the international Criminal Court, and form an African Continental Criminal Court instead.
Finally, Gongyue and Wang Letian from Nanjing Normal University broke into the Semi Final of the national competition and won the first prize, while both of them were also awarded as the best debater.
This competition shows the great progress our college has achieved in English speaking and debating education. Next year NNU will also be the host school of FLTRP East China Regional Debating Competition.
